Untraditional Easter

This weekend was Easter weekend, and though the weekend was GREAT, it was very untraditional in every way possible.

I took off work on Friday for Good Friday, but I ended up running errands all morning long, cleaning the car, cleaning the house, and keeping busy! Then when Jesse got off work, we packed and headed up to Dallas for the weekend. The drive up was pretty nice once we made it out of Conroe. The highway was covered in wildflowers, and people kept pulling over to take pictures of their family posing in the flowers. We stopped in Fairfield for dinner, and ate at "Sam's Restaurant," which was southern home-cooked food, if I ever saw it. Finally, we made it to Dallas and spent Friday night with my cousins Bryan and Courtney. As always, it is so fun to hang out with them and just catch up. We stayed up pretty late, and were all exhausted by the time we went to bed.

Saturday morning we woke up bright and EARLY, got cleaned up, and headed over to Uncle Charlie's house. We had planned a surprise birthday golfing trip for my Dad's 50th birthday, and we were all supposed to meet over there to surprise him. Sure enough, he was pretty surprised! I will post details and pictures from his birthday in a separate entry. The guys headed off for golf, and the remaining girls got cleaned up. We had planned on going to the grocery store to buy things for lunch when the guys got home, and sure enough, we all (7 of us) piled into the suburban and headed to the store. After picking up some drinks, Mom said she was not going to be able to wait until 2:30 to eat when the guys got back. My stomach was already growling, so I agreed. We decided to go to the La Madeline's restaurant for Caesar salads. What I didn't know, was the whole thing was planned as yet another surprise baby shower! Details and pictures to follow in another entry. After the awesome shower, we headed back to Uncle Charlie's to have the rest of Dad's birthday party. (Turns out the guys were going to lunch on their own; that was just a decoy to get us out of the house!) We had brownie and ice cream, sang happy birthday, and Dad opened his presents.

Jesse and I had to head back home that night, so once the party was over, we packed up all our goodies from the shower, said our "thank yous" and goodbyes, and got on the road. What I failed to mention prior to this, is that the night before, the temperatures had dropped significantly. So much so, that during the shower, it was actually snowing in Dallas! Now it was not sticking or anything like that, but we knew road conditions could possibly be bad. I started out the drive home, and it started drizzling and being nasty. Well, by the time we got to Fairfield/Buffalo area, it was seriously snowing, sticking, and making the highway look like a winter wonderland...ironically, in Texas, in the month of April, a day before Easter, when only two days before it had been 80 degrees! On the drive up, people were stopped on the side of the road, in tank tops and shorts, posing in the wildflowers. Now, people were again stopped on the side of the road, bundled up in jackets, making snowmen, having snow ball fights, and taking pictures of the snow! We were just like everyone else...
Isn't the "snow bunny" cute?
Jesse could not resist throwing at least one snowball...
The snow flakes were really coming down, though it's hard to see in this picture.
Needless to say, Jesse took over the driving again, and we made it home safe and sound, with a fun adventure on the way. :)

Sunday morning we were able to sleep in a little bit before heading to church. It was a nice service, and we both were glad to be there. Afterwards, we went to lunch at Oriental Garden...yes people, we had Chinese food on Easter. But the "untraditionalism" does not stop there. We came home and Jesse started working on his project in the kitchen. Meanwhile, I unpacked all our new goodies and began organizing, decorating, and accessorizing the nursery. We worked all afternoon, and started to get hungry again around 6:00. Jesse's family had invited us over for Easter dinner, but we were still working on things and did not want to stop, clean up, and head over. So instead...I ordered Papa Johns. Yes, we did it again. Chinese food and pizza on Easter. Not one Easter egg or piece of Easter candy. It was a little strange, but I know that it will be the last one EVER like that, since we will have our own little one to hunt Easter eggs next year. :)

All in all, it was a great weekend, and even ended up being a rather productive weekend. It sure did not feel like Easter, but hey, a little untraditionalism from time to time makes you look forward to the traditions the next go-around.
